Harris promoted EV infrastructure expansion through the bipartisan infrastructure law, promising 500,000 charging stations nationwide. Funding was approved and build-out began in 2023.
What was done
The 2021 Infrastructure Act allocated $7.5 billion for the NEVI program managed by DOT and DOE. Rollout began in 2023, coordinated with state plans. The federal EV infrastructure program is live, with multiple private–public partnerships co-funded through NEVI. Although network expansion lags behind aspirational numbers, the legislative, financial, and administrative implementation achieved the promise’s practical fulfillment.
